Introduction

Château Pech-Latt is a magnificent vineyard located near Lagrasse in the heart of the Corbières appellation in Languedoc-Roussillon, and has been grown in organic farming since 1991. The castle and grounds extend over 340 hectares, at an altitude of 250 m, in the foothills of the protected Alaric Mountain. Amidst Mediterranean vegetation of pine and Garrigues, the terroir of Pech-Latt is a preserved ecosystem. This ideal situation creates an environment conducive to natural viticulture. Pech-Latt also takes its name from its particular situation, “Pech”, an Occitan word meaning “hill”. Indeed, the castle sits on a hill overlooking the vineyards and the village of Ribaute below.

Practices & Techniques

Le Chateau Pech-Latt is a true pioneer of organic farming in the South of France. It was in 1991 that the adventure of organic farming began in the field. This environment protected from pollution seems to have been designed for organic farming: This property in one piece has the enormous advantage of having only two border vines with other properties. All others are protected by the garrigue; the risk of contamination by a neighboring farmer is zero. The goal of organic viticulture is twofold: environmental protection and quality improvement. Indeed, it avoids all the errors and exaggerations of industrial agriculture, harmful to nature. The bio allows us to respect and express our land in its complexity. So we pérennisons our area for generations. Organic to the quality of service is a reality. Respecting soil and biodiversity provides frank wines, natural, authentic taste, against standardized international wines.

Estate Vineyards / AVA

The vineyards stretch over 135 hectares. The first were planted in 784 by the monks of St. Mary of Lagrasse Abbey, founded by Charlemagne.
